Colusa County public hazard mitigation plan meeting scheduled

In partnership with the cities of Colusa and Williams, the Kletsen Dehe Wintun Nation, and many special districts, Colusa County is holding its kickoff meeting to update its 2018 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) on Dec. 13 at two different sites and times in an effort to solicit public attendance.

Floods, drought, wildfires, and severe weather are just a few of the hazards of concern to Colusa County, and while natural hazards such as these cannot be prevented, an LHMP forms the foundation for a community’s long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses by breaking the repeated cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction.

Colusa County administration said communities with a FEMA-approved LHMP are eligible to apply for both pre- and post-disaster mitigation grant funding.

Colusa County residents and stakeholders are invited to attend one of both of the meetings on Dec. 13, the first is 1-4 p.m. at the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office training room, 929 Bridge St., Colusa; and the second from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Veterans Hall, 1-99 E Main St., Colusa.

During these initial public meetings, LHMP staff will explain the development process, the benefits of hazard mitigation planning, and how residents can be involved.
