Columbus records 15th and 16th homicides of 2024 after two separate weekend shootings

Two men are dead following two separate shootings in the area of Victory Drive in Columbus over the weekend.

One man died after a shooting Saturday on Victory Drive.

The victim has been identified as 77-year-old Andrew Jackson, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan said Jackson was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m., Saturday, at a local hospital.

An autopsy will be performed, according to Bryan.

That was the 15th homicide in Columbus in 2024, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.

A second man died after a shooting Sunday in the area of Victory Drive.

The victim has been identified as Willi Malik Harris Jr., 25, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Bryan.

Bryan said Harris was found in an empty lot in woods off of Victory Drive and Andrews Road.

Harris was pronounced dead at 4:44 p.m., Sunday, according to Bryan.

That was the 16th homicide in Columbus in 2024, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.
