Columbus police officer breaks leg during foot chase of theft suspects

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Columbus police officer has been hospitalized after an injury during a pursuit of alleged theft suspects.

According to police, a medic was requested in the 1200 block of North Grant Avenue in the Weinland Park neighborhood. Emergency crews arrived at 2:50 a.m. and found an officer with a broken leg, which occurred during a foot chase.

Officers were reportedly chasing theft suspects when a sergeant in pursuit fell and suffered a broken leg and multiple lacerations. The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Both suspects were apprehended. One has since been released.
