Columbus Police: Man wanted in Tracey Street shooting dies with ‘self-inflicted gunshot wound’

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A man wanted in connection to the shooting of a 6-year-old earlier this month died in a local hospital after Columbus police say they found him with a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” on early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a shooting in the 2100 block of Wellborn Drive at 4:30 a.m. Robert Walker, 20, was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Walker was pronounced dead at 6:51 a.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

On May 6, Columbus police issued an aggravated assault warrant for Walker’s arrest in connection to the shooting of a child on Tracey Street. According to police, the child is still hospitalized in Atlanta, but is stable and making positive improvement.
