Columbus man arrested on aggravated assault charges following a shooting at a house

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A local man was arrested on multiple charges after a shooting at a house over a week ago.

Jonathan Provo, of Columbus, was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 26, according to the Columbus Police Department.

The Columbus Police Department was watching a home in Phenix City for Provo, who was wanted at the time. After seeing Provo leave the home and get into a car, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office was contacted.

The sheriff’s office made a traffic stop on Provo’s vehicle. Provo was taken into custody without incident on these charges:

  • Six counts of aggravated assault

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime

Provo was brought back to Columbus after signing a waiver of extradition. His Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at 9 a.m.
