A new Columbus eatery was among 83 restaurants inspected last month. Here’s the list.

A new snack bar received its initial inspection as most Muscogee County food service establishments earned A’s on their health inspections last month.

There were 83 restaurants, lounges and bars inspected in March, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. Of the 67 Columbus businesses offering food services that received “A’s” in their routine inspections, 32 of them earned perfect scores. and 16 earned “B’s”.

Sweet and Spicy Snack Bar at 1241 Double Churches Rd. opened its doors on March 11 offering pork rinds, ramen noodles, slushes, fruit and desserts. The new eatery earned a perfect score on its initial health inspection score on March 7.

How the grading works

Restaurants receive one of four letter grades that are assigned based on how many points are deducted from 100:

  • “A” grades mean food safety is excellent is achieved by receiving 90-100 points

  • “B’s” are issued when there is “satisfactory compliance” with the business receiving 80-89 points

  • “C’s” mean there is marginal compliance and applied to scores between 70-79

  • “U’s” represent unsatisfactory compliance and are applied to scores of 69 or less.

Establishments that receive a “C” or “U” food safety grade will have at least one additional routine inspection added in a twelve month period, according to state law.
