Columbus Airport implements hidden disabilities program

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Columbus Airport is implementing the Hidden Sunflower program to help better serve members of the community who have hidden disabilities.

Columbus is now part of a global network of over 200 airports who are part of the program.

The program is a means of helping those with hidden disabilities subtlety identify themselves by wearing a lanyard and badge marked by sunflowers. These items come at no extra cost to an individual who may need them.

The Hidden Sunflower program was founded in 2016 by Gatwick Airport in England, and since then the program has been used not only in aviation, but across multiple businesses.

The Columbus Airport hopes the initiative will “foster a culture of understanding, accommodation, and support for individuals with hidden disabilities—ushering in a new era of inclusivity across both public and private sectors.”
