Columbia County schools looking to hire teachers

EVANS, Ga (WJBF)- Teachers looking for a job for the next school year have a chance to work in Columbia County. The Columbia County School District is holding a job fair on Thursday. They are hoping to fill around 50 available teacher positions by June 1st.

Applicants should bring a resume and be prepared for a preliminary on site interview.

Assistant Chief Human Resources Officer, Sean Petro, said that job hopefuls should get a decision within a few days. He encourages teachers looking for a job to check Columbia County Schools out.

“Columbia County is one of the finest school districts, not only in the state, but the southeast and really across the country. The kind of students that we produce, the kind of families we have in our neighborhood is just excellent. I’m a product of Columbia County. I came back here to work, which numerous of our employees do. And it’s just a family atmosphere that we all love. We have great students, great, great families and great employees,” he said.

Luke Yelton is a third generation Harlem High School graduate and is in his second year as band director at Columbia Middle School. He says the school district sets its teachers up for success.

“The students we produce, the administration that leads our district is second to none. The new teacher induction that we do, we have a program where we train up new teachers that I was a part of last year, and I still am in year two. It helps. It has helped me to just focus on some things to be better at teaching,” Yelton explained.

The job fair will take place Thursday, May 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Support Department Complex at 4395 River Watch Parkway.
