Columbia County GOP host forum in Grovetown for primary candidates

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) –“I’m seeing some issues in the schools, I’m seeing our academic sliding no the business to watch our tax dollars,” said Kate Allen, Candidate for Columbia County Board of Education.

With just a week to go until the primary election, five candidates running for seats are making sure voters know where they stand on issues.

The Columbia County GOP hosted a forum giving voters the opportunity to ask questions about different topics.

“Well, one of the big issue is going to be the ballot question about Columbia County incorporating that’s a big question with the voters want us to focus in our positions on gun rights that’s become a pretty hot topic issue, as well as our position on abortion and pro-choice” said Ben Cairns, candidate for GA House district 131.

If elected, these candidates will serve the Evans and Grovetown area. They say their main focus is earning the trust of voters.

“I’m not running in slogans I’m not running as a constitutional conservative or I’m a good conservative I’ve put in the work already to earn everyone’s vote like I said, I’ve written the solutions that I’m going to bring to Georgia,” said David Byrne candidate for GA House district 131.

“I’ve met people from all walks of life and in our county I’m just excited to serve them, and I’ll be honored to serve them, and I don’t expect them to trust me I will earn their trust I’m a former US Marine,” said Mark Peterson, candidate for Columbia County district 2 commission.

They are also hoping to encourage more young people to get out and vote on May 21st

“When I first moved here five years ago I immediately fell in love with the county and I live the officials no listen I’m here I want to be involved in the county ” said Rickey Merideth, candidate for Columbia County district 3 commission.
