Colorado tolls ranked among the most expensive in the country: Study

DENVER (KDVR) – Driving through Colorado is more expensive than in other states, based on a new study from LendingTree.

The company released a study that used Federal Highway Administration data to calculate the highest average roadway fees in the country, using only toll facilities in which a maximum passenger vehicle fee was available. Colorado’s toll rates are based on how many axles each vehicle has, instead of on how many passengers are in the vehicle.

The study found that Colorado had the fifth highest average fees on interstate toll roads ($1.36) and non-interstate toll roads ($0.82).

While the entire state ranked fairly high in the study, a few particular roads in the Centennial State were more expensive than others in Colorado.

Colorado’s most expensive roads

Not only does Colorado average some of the highest tolls in the country, but three roadways in the state are some of the most expensive to pass through in the nation.

As for tolls on interstate roads throughout the country, one Colorado roadway ranked as the fifth highest in the nation: Interstate 70 eastbound Mountain Express Lane from U.S. 40 to SH 6 which costs $2.31.

Meanwhile, two other Colorado road tolls ranked in the top 10 highest non-interstate road tolls. One toll is on Pikes Peak Road from the town of Cascade, U.S. Highway 24, west of Colorado Springs to the top of Pikes Peak, which totals $2.11.

C-470, Kipling to Interstate 25 is also one of the highest tolls. From Kipling Avenue to I-25 costs $1.06. While the tolls ranked as some of the highest in the study, other tolls throughout the country were almost as high as $5 in some places.
