Colorado State to start third different quarterback in as many weeks

The struggle to find a starting quarterback is apparently real for Colorado State coach Mike Bobo.

Bobo said Wednesday the team would start true freshman quarterback Collin Hill and Hill would start the Rams’ game vs. Northern Colorado. When Hill takes the first snap of Saturday’s game he’ll be CSU’s third starting quarterback in as many weeks. From the Coloradoan:

“We’re going to go with Collin Hill for this game,” Bobo said. “… I feel like he’s confident. I feel like the guys are responding well to him, and I’m looking forward to seeing him play on Saturday.”

Nick Stevens started the team’s Week 1 blowout loss to Colorado. He played poorly, going just 6-20 passing for 31 yards and two inter

ceptions. He was replaced by Georgia transfer Faton Bauta, who was 6-9 for 32 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Bauta got the start in Week 2 and wasn’t too convincing in the Rams’ 23-14 win over Texas-San Antonio. Bauta went 6-17 for 82 yards while Hill saw time too. He was 2-6 for 26 yards.

Bauta transferred to Colorado State as a graduate transfer after the 2015 season. Hill was an early-enrollee at CSU and Bobo said he considered starting the freshman vs. Colorado but didn’t believe he was as ready as he was two weeks ago as he is now.

“We just felt like he wasn’t ready, because the worst thing you can do with a young quarterback is put him in too early, and he doesn’t have success and you can damage him for a while,” Bobo said.
