2024 election results: Trump wins Colorado Republican presidential primary

DENVER (KDVR) — Donald Trump has won Colorado’s 2024 Republican presidential primary and is now well on his way to securing the party’s nomination, according to the Associated Press.

As of 10:30 p.m., the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office reported nearly 1.3 million total votes cast, or 34% of total active Colorado voters.

Trump had more than 63% of total Republican votes, or about 518,000 votes cast as of 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The win in Colorado nets him another 37 delegates toward the Republican Party nomination for president.

The outcome will determine which candidate will receive the state’s delegates at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this July.

So far this year, Trump has won nearly every primary and caucus of his candidacy, with Nikki Haley, the former United Nations ambassador and former South Carolina governor, generally taking second place. While most other Republican candidates have suspended their campaigns, Haley has vowed to stay in the race.

Last week, Haley visited Colorado and held a campaign rally at Wings of the Rockies. Trump has not visited the state in this election cycle.

The convention will determine who will face the presumptive Democratic nominee, incumbent President Joe Biden.

Trump won the Colorado Republican primary in 2020, securing all the delegates. He held a rally in Colorado Springs that year, as well as one in Denver in 2016.

The Colorado Supreme Court had issued a ruling saying Trump could not appear on the state’s ballot because of his role in the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. However, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned that decision Monday, saying only Congress has the power to remove federal candidates from the ballot.

Voters in 16 states will cast their ballots on Super Tuesday, with about one-third of the delegates for each party at stake. While a sweep by Trump would not be enough for him to lock up the election, it would put Haley’s campaign in dire straits. Trump already has 247 pledged delegates. If he were to win all 865 on Super Tuesday, it would put him close to the 1,215 needed to secure the nomination. Going into Tuesday, Haley had 43 pledged delegates.

Nikki Haley earns over a third of Republican votes

As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, Haley had earned more than 33% of the Republican primary ballots, or 273,809 votes.

National Super Tuesday results

Haley had only won one primary election so far in this election cycle: Washington, D.C., earning her 19 more delegates for a total of 43 nationwide. Trump, meanwhile, had earned 247 before Super Tuesday votes began.

Haley also won the Vermont primary on Tuesday night with about 50% of the total. The race had 17 delegates up for grabs on the Republican side.

Taking third place in the Colorado Republican primary is Ron Desantis with a reported 11,964 votes as of 3 a.m. Wednesday, or just fewer than 1.5% of all cast votes counted.
