Colo. hopes agritourism will help rural economies

New strategic plans hopes to aid rural economies by growing Colorado agritourism industry

DENVER (AP) -- Colorado is looking to agricultural tourism to boost rural economies.

A statewide strategic plan to be released Friday by the Colorado Tourism Office and the Colorado Department of Agriculture provides a three-year road map for the development of the state's agritourism industry.

The strategic plan emphasizes industry education and public awareness. A report recommends the Colorado Tourism Office develop a peer mentor program and host regional roadshows to spotlight their products and offer training. Agritourism can include farmers markets, corn mazes, farm-to-table dinners and farm-stay holidays

The agritourism plan will be presented at the Southwest Tourism Summit in Durango.
