College Students Are Abusing Sea Creatures While on Spring Break

College students do dumb stuff on spring break every year, but recent videos show vacationers committing worse crimes than getting blackout drunk. Instead of minding their own intoxicated business, some kids are abusing local wildlife while partying on the beach. In one viral clip, a young man used a shark to shotgun his beer.

Recirculated by the college website Total Frat Move, the video prompted instant outrage from commenters, who called it "disgusting" and "disgraceful." Harassing an animal to chug your drink (and win TFM's spring break contest) is undeniably sickening, but that one culprit isn't alone.

Other videos show similarly-cruel actions under the guise of normal college hijinks. One man used a starfish to funnel his cocktail:

Another trapped a seagull and carried him around the beach.

One student jumped into a shark tank at Atlantis Resort, which is not only dangerous, but disrespectful of the animals living there.

Going on vacation isn't a crime. Getting drunk isn't either (if you're over the age of 21, that is). But animal abuse should never be fun, no matter where you are or what state you're in.

While the shark shotgunner reportedly apologized on his personal Facebook page, that doesn't erase the damage. Amid the criticism, Total Frat Move still doesn't regret posting the "shark shotgun" video. "I can admit that it's in relative poor taste, but it's not so bad that it deserves all this attention, or even close to it," one writer said afterwards. "Did using the shark's teeth to puncture a beer upset the shark? I don't believe so, because it was dead."

This is the same website that made fun of spring breakers for picking up trash that could (obviously) hurt other wildlife.

While most college students don't engage in this type of behavior, hopefully the ongoing backlash stops the ones who do.
