College Station man with dementia found safe: sheriff

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas - Law enforcement says that a College Station man with dementia last seen in Gillespie County was found safe almost six hours away from where he was reported missing.

61-year-old Jay Paul Stewart was last seen Monday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. when he left his parents' home in Fredericksburg in one of their vehicles.

The Gillespie County Sheriff's Office says deputies were able to locate Stewart's vehicle around 2:30 p.m. May 21 near Sierra Blanca in Hudspeth County, near the US-Mexico border.

GCSO called a Texas DPS trooper for that region who found Stewart in his vehicle which had run out of fuel. Stewart was okay and taken to the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office to be reunited with his family.
