College football outlook: Rain may cause slick fields for AAC, ACC championship matchups

While conference championships will be played as normal this weekend, a slate of postponed games have also been added.

Several games were canceled back in September when Hurricane Florence hit the East Coast, leading to new games being played for teams to make it to a 12-game schedule.

Stanford and Cal will also play this weekend after wildfires canceled the game two weeks ago amid dangerous air quality.

Take a look at which games have a weather impact this weekend:

After Hurricane Florence forced the cancellation of East Carolina at Virginia Tech in September, the Hokie program rushed to schedule a game with Marshall to hit their slate of 12 games this season.

The Thundering Herd will travel to Blacksburg on this final weekend of college football action as the Hokies look for their sixth win, making them bowl eligible.

Heavy rain is expected for the noon game, so fans should be prepared with waterproof gear.

Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-50s.

Hurricane Florence forced N.C. State to cancel their matchup with West Virginia in September, and the Wolfpack turned to the Pirates of East Carolina for a makeup game.

This weekend, an incoming storm system could bring showers to Raleigh. Rain is more likely during the second half of the game as the afternoon unfolds.

The field could be slick at times, leading to a higher chance of turnovers.

The high will hit near the 60-degree-Fahrenheit mark.

Stanford at Cal - 3 p.m. EST

The devastating wildfires in California forced officials to postpone this Pac-12 matchup due to unsafe air quality two weeks ago.

The Camp Fire near the Bay Area is now at 100 percent containment, and conditions are safe enough for athletes and spectators to spend time outdoors.

However, a storm system moving across the state could lead to some lingering showers during the game.

It will also be a cooler day with highs reaching only the mid-50s.

Memphis at No. 8 UCF - 3 p.m. EST

UCF will try to remain undefeated for the second year in a row as they take on Memphis in the AAC Championship game in Orlando on Saturday.

Stormy weather could interrupt the game as thunderstorms are possible throughout the day. A lightning delay cannot be ruled out.

Showers could make for slippery field conditions and some pooling of water in spots.

Between some breaks of sunshine, temperatures will hold steady around the 80-degree-Fahrenheit mark.

No. 2 Clemson at Pitt - 8 p.m. EST

The Tigers and Panthers will square off in Charlotte on Saturday night for the ACC Championship.

It will be a wet and mild day at Bank of America Stadium with plenty of showers during the afternoon for tailgating activities.

Fans should be prepared with rain jackets, tents and other waterproof gear.

Temperatures will hover in the low 60s for most of the day.

A few showers will linger into the game, making for wet field conditions. A slight breeze from the south could hinder kicks and longer passes.
