Colfax man dies in Placer County crash after losing control of his motorcycle, CHP says

A 56-year-old Colfax man died in a crash Saturday evening after he lost control of his motorcycle and went off a rural road in Placer County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

About 7:45 p.m., the Placer County Sheriff’s Office notified CHP dispatchers that a passerby had called to report a motorcycle crash near the intersection of Bell Road and Burt Lane just north of Auburn.

The passerby, who did not see the motorcycle crash, told sheriff’s dispatchers that the motorcycle rider was unresponsive, according to a news release from the CHP Auburn Area Office.

CHP officers and medical personnel went to the crash scene. Investigators determined the Colfax man had been riding a 2005 Harley Davidson west on Bell Road and approaching Burt Lane.

The CHP said that for unknown reasons, the man lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road. He was thrown from the motorcycle and fatally injured. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Mechanical failure is not suspected, the CHP said Sunday, but the cause of the crash remained under investigation. Investigators did not know whether alcohol or drugs factored into the crash.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about the crash to call the CHP Auburn Area Office at 916-663-3344.
