Elmira, N.Y. (WETM) – Spotty showers clear out today as high pressure gradually makes its return. How is our midweek shaping up? Details below:

TODAY:

A cold front sweeps over the Twin Tiers today, bringing daytime showers and cooler temperatures. The rest of this morning will see a few scattered showers that may linger into the afternoon, but by late afternoon, most are drying off and mainly cloudy. Temperatures behind the cold front leave us with highs today in the mid-50s earlier in the day, with a cooldown throughout the afternoon.

TONIGHT:

Dry air moves in tonight, and cloud cover decreases as high-pressure returns. Between the cold front and partly clear skies, temperatures will drop down to the low 30s and upper 20s overnight. We’ll be staying dry overnight.

REST OF THE WEEK:

High pressure is in control for the end of the work week. We’ll be treated to plenty of sunshine tomorrow and Friday. Showers return with low pressure this weekend, but deep southerly flow also increases temperatures. We’ll continue to track how that rain will impact the forecasted temperatures and how those warmer temperatures will impact forecasted showers heading into next week.
