Coffeyville man arrested after allegedly stealing ex’s car, standoff with police

PARSONS, Kan. — A Coffeyville man recently released from prison is back in custody after police say he stole his ex-girlfriend’s SUV and said he would commit “suicide by cop” if caught.

Officers with the Parsons Police Department Saturday night responded to a call about a possible stolen vehicle. After contacting the victim, officers say it turned out to be a domestic situation that escalated into the woman’s ex-boyfriend stealing her 2018 Chevrolet Traverse near the 200 block of Willow Ave.

The boyfriend, Peter Olsen Jr., 26, reportedly stole his ex’s purse and keys before leaving with the vehicle. The victim told police Olsen said he would “not go back to prison.”

Officers say they found the vehicle at a residence on Willow Ave. and were told there were two guns inside belonging to the victim. The information about the firearms along with Olsen’s reported statements prompted officers to stage outside the residence on Willow Ave. rather than approach the suspect.

After repeated attempts to contact Olsen, officers were given the go-ahead to enter the residence by the homeowner. Police say Olsen was unarmed and taken into custody without incident.

Olsen faces charges of aggravated burglary, felony theft, misdemeanor theft and domestic battery. His bond is set at $20,000 cash or surety bond.
