Coby Fleener hasn’t gotten into sync yet
The New Orleans Saints really need Coby Fleener to be a huge part of their offense in 2016. There is no room for ifs, and, buts, candy or nuts.

The man who signed a five-year deal worth $36 million definitely got overpaid if you look at his stats, as he hasn’t come close to 1,000 yards yet. Then again, it’s hard to get targets when Andrew Luck also had T.Y. Hilton, Reggie Wayne and Donte Moncrief to throw too.
He’s going to have to battle for targets over Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and surprising rookie Michael Thomas. According to Josh Katzenstein from NOLA.com, Fleener has shown flashes, but Sean Payton has said it’s a work in progress.
“I’d say it’s an ongoing progression. “I think, man, there’s some plays that are real good, and then there’s some plays where we’ve got to be a little bit more detailed and that’s something that I know he’s got to work on,” Payton said.
Fleener had a good moment in yesterday’s practice:
Brees to Fleener for a 60-yard TD on first play of 2 min drill. Saints down 5 with 1:28 left & 2 TOs. One play, beat Laurinaitis down seam.

It’s not going to be easy for Fleener to learn the playbook right away. The Saints mainly need him to be a redzone threat, and he will get those chances considering that cooks (5-10,) and Snead (5-11,) are relatively undersized for guys at their position.
It’s never easy working with a future Hall of Fame quarterback, but we’ve seen Brees make the most out of many weapons. Expect Fleener to eventually be a huge part of the offense, but it might not come right away.
