Cobleskill man indicted for forging checks

Apr. 19—A Cobleskill man was indicted in Delaware County Court April 16 for forgery and grand larceny.

According to a media release from District Attorney Shawn Smith, Gerard F. H. Johnson, 41, is alleged to have possessed forged checks on three separate occasions on or about March 16, and stole more than $2,000 from two separate bank accounts by using those forged checks made payable to himself instead of the intended party. Johnson was charged with three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony; two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a class D felony; and one count of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

After being arraigned, Johnson pleaded not guilty to the indictment, the release said. Judge John Hubbard remanded him to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.
