Coast Guard Intercepts Purpose-Built Vessel Suspected of Carrying More Than 3,000 Pounds of Cocaine

The US Coast Guard intercepted a “low-profile go-fast vessel” while on patrol in the eastern Pacific Ocean in November.

The Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf seized more than 3,100 pounds of suspected cocaine from the smuggling vessel on November 4, a US Department of Defence media service said.

US authorities said purpose-built vessels like the one they intercepted were designed to smuggle large amounts of contraband while evading detection by law enforcement personnel due to their camouflage and low profile. Credit: US Coast Guard Pacific Area via Storyful
