CMS high school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student
Police arrested a 25-year-old Harding University High School teacher on Wednesday, accusing her of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old male student.
Social studies teacher Jasmine Wooten was charged with the felony of taking indecent liberties against a student and is free on $50,000 unsecured bond, Mecklenburg County jail records show.
A second person with the same name teaches English at Harding, but she’s not charged in this case.
Wooten was arrested Wednesday morning after school resource officers alerted police to a “potential inappropriate relationship” between the teacher and student, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.
Police said they spoke with the student and later interviewed Wooten at police headquarters. At the end of the interview, police obtained a warrant for her arrest.
Wooten was suspended with pay on Wednesday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
CMS hired her in August 2022.
Wooten didn’t reply to a phone message from The Charlotte Observer.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call CMPD at 704-432-8477 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.
