The pre-ride ceremony will start in the parking lot of the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown at 601 E. Trade Street. CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings will speak ahead of the ride. The Ride to Honor will begin at the end of the ceremony. Riders will be accompanied by a full police escort through their journey to Washington, D.C. This group will represent CMPD next week beginning with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil at the National Mall on May 13.

Since 2007, CMPD and law enforcement from the surrounding areas have gathered each May to ride bicycles 500 miles over four days from Charlotte to D.C. Each mile of the ride is a tribute to fallen law enforcement officers.

In honor of fallen CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer, a member of the CMPD will ride Officer Eyer’s public order bike along the 500-mile journey. His Civil Emergency Unit-issued vest and helmet will be mounted to the bike.

The husband and father served with the North Carolina National Guard for 12 years and was rewarded with Officer of the Month in early April.
