Mar. 27—Linger Awhile Extension Homemakers
On March 20, six members of the Linger Awhile Extension Homemakers met at the Adult Senior Center for their monthly meeting.
President Diann Reisman opened the meeting by leading the Club Creed and Pledge to the Flag. For Devotions Rosemary Schroeder gave some history on the life of St. Patrick. Irene Tebbe gave the thought of the month: "Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead," by Hans Christion Anderson. Members answered Roll Call by telling if they have ever found a four-leaf clover. The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved, and Irene Tebbe gave the Treasurer's report.
Since we were unfamiliar with the song of the month, we chose to sing instead "I'm Looking Over a Four-leaf Clover." Reservations were collected for International Night, which will be held at the Adult Center on April 18 featuring the country of Greece. Paulette reported of the Spring District which she attended on March 18 in Bartholomew County. Paulette also participated in the sewing day for Operation Christmas Child on March 8.
For Cultural Arts, Rosemary brought in an antique butter churn which belonged to her mother and probably dated back to the early 1900s.
For Health and Safety, Theresa Ripperger read and article titled "Your Junk Food Survival Plan." Small steps can make a big difference on your intake of ultra processed or junk foods. Avoid triggers: Be aware of situations which trigger food cravings. Don't skip meals; aim for three healthy minimally processed meals a day to reduce binges and mindless eating.
We discussed the lesson on Stress and Self Care: The causes of stress, how it affects our bodies and minds, ways to reduce stress, and self-care solutions.
Theresa Ripperger won the 50/50. Paulette served refreshments of cupcakes and Sprite.
The meeting closed with the Homemaker's Prayer.
Our next meeting will be at 10 a.m. April 17 at the Adult Senior Center.
50 Extension Homemakers
The 50 Extension Homemakers met at 1 p.m. March 20 at the Extension Office.
Isabelle Royse, president, called the meeting to order followed by the Homemaker's Creed and the pledge to the American flag. Lucinda Israel, hostess, gave devotions by reading "Outlook" from an Ideals magazine. For cultural arts, she showed us hand-carved wooden items made by her 3 x great-grandfather, John Black. His initials and possibly 1783 were marked.
Lucinda read the Thought of the Month, "Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead." We read in unison the Song of the Month, "Song of March." We sang "Happy Birthday" to Becky Hadler and Judy Kessens. Nine members answered roll by stating whether we had ever found a 4-leaf clover. Juanita Israel read the February secretary's report, and Bertha Head gave the treasurer's report.
We finished collecting dues and were reminded to send in our reservations for Retreat. Becky gave a review of District Day. Extension Homemakers merchandise is on sale at these events and will probably be on sale at Retreat. April 18 is International Night at the Senior Center. Nine of us plan to attend. The special project for Conference is a table runner, no wider than 18 inches, length is optional and made of any medium. We are to bring this to International Night for judging. Isabelle reported on Sewing Day. Juanita showed directions she prepared for the small and large purses, pads, etc.
We picked our brains and came up with Thought of the Month, Roll Call, and Song of the Month for July and January of the 2024/2025 program booklets.
Members filled out a sheet for the Extension Office stating our intent to help with Open Class judging at the fair, what areas and what times. We received a flyer regarding Senior Movie Night at 10 a.m. March 20 at Wolf Theatre. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" is showing and there will be free popcorn and drinks.
Juanita gave the Health and Safety lesson on "Driving in the Dark." Following the Club Prayer, Isabelle gave the lesson "Tips for Preventing Dementia." Lucinda served fruit pizza, nuts, and caramels for refreshments. Becky and Juanita received the door prizes.
Our next meeting is at 1 p.m. April 17 at the Extension Office. Judy will be hostess, Becky will present the educational lesson, and Lucinda will have the health and safety lesson.
