What’s closing for Memorial Day?

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Monday, May 27, marks Memorial Day, meaning that several City of San Angelo operations will be closed in observance of the national day of remembrance. What City facilities and services can you count on to be open during the holiday?

Closures

Multiple City operations will be closed on May 27. According to the City, the following operations will be unavailable until Tuesday, May 28:

  • Animal Shelter

  • City Hall and the Community Development building

  • City Hall Annex

  • Fairmount Cemetery’s business offices

  • Municipal Court

  • Parks and Recreation offices

  • San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department

  • Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers

  • Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers

  • WIC offices

Trash collection services will not be interrupted during the holiday. Though the landfill will be closed on Saturday, May 25, it will be open on Memorial Day.

Other facilities

The City’s Municipal Pool will finally open for the season on Saturday, May 25, from noon to 6 p.m. and will remain open from noon to 6 p.m. on Memorial Day. The pool’s normal hours of operation are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

The Fort Concho National Historic Landmark will host a special program at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day in front of the site’s Headquarters Building in honor of those who have given their lives in defending the nation. The program’s main address will be given by Gulf War veteran Aaron Woods, and the Fort Concho Living History Program and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans will fire memorial salutes.

Day passes to Middle Concho Park and Spring Creek Park, two parks located near Lake Nasworthy, are available at their entry gates for $5 per vehicle. Season entry passes, which are valid through Labor Day weekend, can also be purchased for $20 for ages 65-plus and those with disabilities or $30 for the general public.
