Clinton man struck, killed by car in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a collision early Wednesday morning.

MCPD said 43-year-old Earl William Smith of Clinton, Md. was driving a Ford van when he hit a sign, causing his van to become disabled in a median. For reasons unknown to investigators, Smith got out of his car and was hit in the roadway by the driver of a BMW.

Crews with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived at the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Norbck Road just before 5:40 a.m.

Smith was pronounced dead there.

The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene.
