Clinton: I was monitoring Osama raid as Trump hosted ‘Celebrity Apprentice’
LAS VEGAS — Hillary Clinton came prepared to the final debate Wednesday for one of Donald Trump’s most effective attack lines against her: that she has supposedly spent 30 years in public life and has not effected change.
“I ask a simple question,” Trump said after Clinton criticized him for shipping jobs overseas and using Chinese steel to build one of his buildings.
“She’s been doing this for 30 years — why the hell didn’t you do it over the last 15, 20 years? If you say I use steel or I use something else, make it impossible for me to do that.” he continued. “The problem is you talk but you don’t get anything done, Hillary.”
Clinton quickly hit back, saying she was “happy” to compare the past three decades of her life to Trump’s life.
“You know, back in the 1970s, I worked for the Children’s Defense Fund. And I was taking on discrimination against African-American kids in schools,” she began. “He was getting sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination in his apartment buildings.”
She added: “In the 1980s, I was working to reform the schools in Arkansas. He was borrowing $14 million from his father to start his businesses. In the 1990s, I went to Beijing. Said ‘women’s rights are human rights.’ He insulted a former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado — called her an ‘eating machine.’ And on the day I was in the Situation Room monitoring the raid that brought Osama bin Laden to justice, he was hosting ‘The Celebrity Apprentice.’”
Trump said he had “built a phenomenal company” over those years and wanted to run the country the way he ran his businesses.
