Routine maintenance work is taking place at two cliffs in Guernsey.

Work would be under way at Moulin Huet and Petit Port until 10 May, officials said.

It is part of ongoing work to keep the areas open and safe for islanders, and will involve removing loose rubble from the cliffs.

The areas were prone to collapse, especially after heavy rain, the States said.

From 3 May, the steps to the eastern bay of Moulin Huet would be closed with the expectation that work would take a day to complete, the States said.

At Petit Port, work was taking place from Tuesday until 10 May, and the steps would be closed, it added.

Loose rubble will be removed by hand tools by a small team accessing the cliff by rope.

The cliffs in this area contained soft rock, which required them to be routinely inspected and maintained by the States to ensure that the area was safe for the public, project leaders said.
