Clear Fork Reservoir Dam undergoing $1.4M in modifications

The City of Mansfield has teamed with Stantec, Shook Construction, and Trucco Construction to complete modifications at Clear Fork Reservoir Dam. The original dam was constructed in 1949 and the reservoir is used for recreation and water supply. With age, dams typically require maintenance and upgrades as dam safety regulations are updated. The current modifications provide improved drainage conditions and will support safe operations of the dam and reservoir for the future.

Construction work that people may have noticed or heard since summer around the Clear Fork Reservoir Dam is expected to be completed in mid-November.

The City of Mansfield has teamed with Stantec, Shook Construction, and Trucco Construction to complete modifications at the dam, city engineer Bob Bianchi said Thursday.

The original dam was constructed in 1949 and the reservoir is used for recreation and water supply.

With age, dams typically require maintenance and upgrades as dam safety regulations are updated. The current project is a seepage remediation project required by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Bianchi said.

"The intent of this project is to control the seepage that flows under the Clear Fork Dam," he said. "The seepage will be controlled by filtering out any soil particles that may be in the seepage. The seepage is then conveyed to a drainage network that will flow into a newly constructed ditch.

"Berm material will be installed over the filter media to provide pressure and reduce the possibility of soil uplift. The overall goal of the project is to support safe operations of the dam and reservoir for decades to come."

The cost of the project is $1.4 million, Bianchi said. City ARPA funds will cover $1 million of the cost and $400,000 is being paid from the water fund. No general fund money is being used.

The project will be completed mid-November, he said, noting the project started in June.

The capacity of the reservoir is 4.4 billion gallons at the height of the spillway.
