Clean-out begins at Harrisburg’s former William Penn High School

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– The clean-out process is underway at the former William Penn High School building in Harrisburg.

Crews were working today to remove all the debris that’s accumulated over the years. The second and third floors are already cleaned.

On Monday, asbestos removal will begin. Work will also be done to stabilize the structure.

A $2.4 million contract was approved to do this work. As for what the building will be in the future, that’s still undecided.

“I think the key is how do we find the funds, there’s going to be a lot of funds that are needed to renovate this building so I think that’s really what we’re all going to be tasked with is how do we find those funds,” Harrisburg School District chief operations administrator John Reedy said.
