Clay Stevenson ties Hershey Bears record for shutouts on 25th birthday

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – Although the Hershey Bears lost to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 1-0 in a shootout on Sunday, goalkeeper Clay Stevenson put up a strong performance to tie the Bears franchise record for regulation shutouts in one season.

Stevenson, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Sunday, earned his seventh shutout in the game to tie Nick Damore and Alfie Moore for the franchise record of shutouts in a single season.

Stevenson now leads the AHL in shutouts, save percentage (.932), and goals against average (1.82).

This is the first back-to-back losses the Bears have suffered since Jan. 13 and 15. Hershey lost in a shootout in both games as well.

Hershey now owns a 41-10-4 record. The Bears play again in a two-game series against the Charlotte Checkers on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9.

The Bears will be back on home ice at the Giant Center on March 16 to take on Syracuse.
