Clatsop Community College students selected for honors, scholarships

Clatsop Community College students Kris Reid and Taylor Falconer have been chosen for the All-USA Academic Team, and will attend a reception in Salem on Friday as the Oregon Community College Association honors scholars from throughout the state.

Falconer is receiving her Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree in business, and will transfer to Linfield University with a full-ride scholarship. She has been the president of Clatsop Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and treasurer of the Associated Student Government.

Reid is graduating with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, and is studying English literature and writing. She has been a Clatsop Community College Foundation student ambassador and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society vice president. Reid has also been honored as a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar, receiving a $1,000 scholarship and a commemorative medallion.

Reid and Asher Finch have been selected as semifinalists for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, which provides up to $55,000 annually for two to three years to help recipients complete their bachelor’s degrees at accredited four-year institutions. Of over 1,600 applicants nationwide, 459 semifinalists were selected. Reid and Finch represent two of the five semifinalists from Oregon colleges. The scholarship awards will be announced in May.

Finch, who is graduating with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, will attend Oregon State University. They are the student body, LGBTQ+ and Allies Club president, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, editor-in-chief of Rain Magazine, president of the English Club and a Clatsop Community College Foundation student ambassador.
