Classics and modern works on tap for Spoleto 2013

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Next spring's Spoleto Festival USA will be one of the largest in recent years, offering everything from Greek tragedy to a performance based on a modern graphic novel.

On Sunday, the festival announced the lineup for its 37th season. The 17-day festival opens May 24 in Charleston, S.C.

Next season's Spoleto has 160 performances — 20 more than last year. And it features everything from a production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" to the Greek tragedy "Oedipus" and a show called "The Intergalactic Nemesis." The festival describes that show as a live-action graphic novel inspired by pulp novels, "Star Wars" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

The festival also features dance, music and opera. It will use the College of Charleston's TD Arena for performances.
