Classic Cartoons Are Getting Their Own Streaming Service

Turner and Warner Bros. have announced that they will be launching a streaming service in the U.S. that will feature all of the studios’ classic animated shows. Called Boomerang, the service will launch this spring and will cost $4.99 a month.

Boomerang will offer over 5,000 animated titles from the library of Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes and MGM. This includes beloved cartoons such as “Scooby-Doo,” “Tom & Jerry,” “The Jetsons,” “The Flinstones” and “Bugs Bunny.”

Although the highlight of the announcement was the inclusion of those classic titles, Boomerang will also include shows from the ’90s to the early ’00s like “Courage the Cowardly Dog” and “My Gym Partner’s a Monkey,” according to Slash Gear.

The upcoming streaming service isn’t only just for old-school cartoons either as Turner and Warner Bros. will also be bringing new and exclusive original series on a weekly basis. Upcoming new shows that have been confirmed so far are “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz” and the remake of “Wacky Races.”

Boomerang will be available to watch on the web and on iOS/Android devices. The streaming service will have features like family profiles, recommendations, Spanish audio option, downloading for offline viewing and some “interactive features.”

Turner and Warner Bros. also promises to expand the availability of Boomerang to streaming devices like the Roku, the Apple TV and Amazon.

“Boomerang is a beloved brand that has always had multi-generational appeal and some of the greatest animated shows ever created,” Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang President Christina Miller said. “Our on-going partnership with Warner Bros. around this new premium service continues our strategy of making sure our fans are engaged with fresh and fun content whenever and wherever they want it.”

If customers sign up for Boomerang for $4.99 a month, they will be eligible for a 7-day free trial. They can simply cancel their subscription before the trial ends so that they won’t be charged. Customers can also subscribe annually for $39.99 and this comes with a 30-day free trial.
