Not so long ago, if you asked someone in the UK if they were watching the Super Bowl, you'd probably have been met with a pretty blank expression. But American football is quickly growing in popularity - and if you want to join in on the fun, cooking classic American comfort food is the ideal way.

The average American supposedly eats a staggering 2,400 calories during the Super Bowl, according to the country's Calorie Control Council, with junk foods such as pizza and "chips and dip" (that's crisps to you and me) the most popular.

Chicken wings are also something of a national tradition, with a staggering 1.25 billion of them eating during the event - enough to stretch from CenturyLink Field in Seattle to the Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts 55 times, supposedly.

The game starts at 11.30pm UK time and finishes at 3am, so if you want to ape our cousins across the ponds and tuck into an American-style feast, you'll be eating pretty late. But just in case, here are some classic American recipes to make your Super Bowl party go with a bang.
