Class of 2024: When, where Tuscaloosa colleges will hold graduations

Circle the first couple of weekends in May on the calendar. Tuscaloosa residents will find traffic a little heavier, the city's restaurants and hotels will be filled and there will be plenty of young people taking selfies around town in their caps and gowns.

All three colleges in Tuscaloosa will hold graduation ceremonies in May.

Here's a look at the schedule of commencement exercises for the Class of 2024 at Shelton State Community College, Stillman College and the University of Alabama:

Shelton State Community College

Shelton State Community College will hold its graduation ceremonies on May 3 in the gymnasium of the Martin campus, 9500 Old Greensboro Road, in Tuscaloosa.

Graduates of the school's technical programs will receive their diplomas at 9 a.m., while graduates of the academic and health-related programs will have a ceremony at 11 a.m.

Honors convocation is set for 2 p.m. April 28.

Shelton State will hold GED graduation at 4 p.m. May 2, followed by the nurse pinning ceremony at 6 p.m. May 2.

Stillman College

Stillman College will hold its 148th commencement ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. May 11 at Stillman Stadium at the campus, 3601 Stillman Blvd.

University of Alabama

The University of Alabama will hold spring commencement with eight ceremonies scheduled for May 3-5 at Coleman Coliseum.

The festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. May 3, with graduation for students in the College of Community Health Sciences, the College of Human Environmental Sciences and the Capstone College of Nursing. At 4:30 p.m., graduation will be held for students in the College of Engineering. The day will wrap up at 7:30 p.m. with graduation for students in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, the College of Education and the School of Social Work.

On May 4, an 8:30 a.m. ceremony will be held for Culverhouse College of Business with last names that start with the letter A through K, followed by a noon ceremony for students with last names L through Z.

At 3:30 p.m., the College of Arts and Sciences will have a ceremony for students with last names that start with the letter A through K, followed by a 7 p.m. ceremony for students with last names L through Z.

The weekend will conclude with the School of Law graduation at 2 p.m. May 5.
