Kaleb Cooper suffered a nasty bump to the head in the new season of Clarkson's Farm - that was caused by his own safety equipment.

The farm manager was shown hitting his head against a metal cage after being pulled backwards by a harness, with Jeremy Clarkson vowing "get rid of all the health and safety equipment off the farm, it's injuring people". Luckily though, Clarkson revealed: "Kaleb's skull was thicker than the cage it hit, so work continued."

Cooper and Clarkson had been trying to build a new home for their pigs in a brutal episode which saw one of the animals eat her own piglet.

What, how, and why?

Clarkson's Farm makes no secret of the dangers that can come with farming life, but filming for the Amazon Prime Video series has strict health and safety rules for its stars.

However, in an episode of the new season three, farm manager Kaleb Cooper is shown suffering a nasty injury that was actually caused by his own safety equipment, which he had asked not to wear.

The episode was filmed during the bleak days of January, when Jeremy Clarkson arrived back at Diddly Squat Farm from his holiday to be told by Cooper that one of his pigs had unexpectedly given birth to five piglets.

Clarkson decided that they needed to press ahead with his plans for a new pen for the pigs in the woods before any more piglets arrived, which involved cutting down some of the lower branches - and Cooper was chosen as the man for the job.

But as Clarkson explained that the filming crew needed him to wear a harness before getting in a tractor's crane to reach the branches, Cooper said: "I can't do this, take it off. I can't have it on."

Clarkson told him: "You can't not have it on because we're being filmed."

Trimming the branches went well, but trouble hit when the cage was lowered by Clarkson's partner Lisa Hogan and Cooper tried to get out.

Hogan said: "There you go, princess," as Cooper tried to get out, but the cage gate swung shut and Cooper was pulled backwards by his safety harness, hitting his head against the metal bars.

Cooper shouted out in pain and the crew rushed to help him, saying a bump was already coming up on his head as Hogan explained: "He forgot he was attached."

"So let's be brutally honest, it's the health and safety equipment that's injured him," said Clarkson. Hogan told him: "I did exactly the same thing," as Clarkson replied: "Right that's it, we've got to get rid of all the health and safety equipment off the farm, it's injuring people."

But he added in a voiceover: "Luckily, Kaleb's skull was thicker than the cage it hit, so work continued."

What else has been happening on Clarkson's Farm?

Viewers were reminded of the brutality of farming life as after Clarkson and Cooper proudly welcomed the piglets to the farm, just a day later they realised the mother pig had eaten the runt of the litter.

But the piglet's death isn't the only pig-related tragedy in the series, as season three part one ends with devastating scenes where the TV star has to make the difficult decision to put his pig Baroness down.

It had been a rocky journey with Baroness struggling to give birth and then one by one her piglets dying. When the last piglet from her litter dies, Clarkson admits: "I can't do this. I can't have pigs anymore. Honestly, it's a nightmare. I like them too much."

More heartache is in store as Clarkson then has to say goodbye to Baroness after vet Jenny Ryan reveals the pig won't get any better.
