Clarksburg girls hoops wins first ever state title

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — On Friday night, led by head coach Sissy Natoli and sisters senior guard Trinity Turner, junior forward/guard London Turner and freshman forward/center Destiny Turner, the Clarksburg girls basketball team won its first state title in program history.

“When we are playing in a game like this, you want the kids to embrace every opportunity to be on a big a stage,” Natoli said. “And they did. So this was a sweet victory for us.”

The Coyotes defeated Montgomery County foe and top seed Bethesda-Chevy Chase, 43-36.

With the win, the Coyotes redeemed themselves for a state championship loss in 2022. Trinity and London Turner were both on the team that lost that game.

“That game wasn’t us that year. We had definitely settled down to the competition, let loose a little bit. We didn’t finish what we started,” Trinity Turner said. “I was happy to be able to finish what we started that year.”

The Coyotes’ win over the Barons came after the Clarksburg won the first matchup between the teams in the regular season and the Barons beat Clarksburg in the Montgomery County title.

Clarksburg finishes the season with a 23-3 record, while BCC finishes 26-3.
