The city of Wilmington is now accepting bids for the demolition of its office building on Chestnut Street.

The city posted the advertisement for bids on Tuesday and will be accepting applications until 3 p.m. June 6. The bids will be publicly opened and read at the Purchasing Division, 929 N. Front St. in the First Floor Lobby Meeting Room No. 1.

According to the city's website, the building located at 305 Chestnut St. was built in 1959 and was the city's largest office building.

The building would require $4.2 million in maintenance and repairs over the next five years, the city's website says.

The city is in the process of transitioning offices to its new headquarters, the former PPD building. As a result, the city intends to sell several of its vacated buildings and surplus property to offset the $68 million purchase price of the new campus.

Out of the city's buildings, the historic Thalian Hall/City Hall building would not be sold.

Firms who want to submit bids for the demolition of the Chestnut Street building must be properly licensed and the bidder's license must appear on the outside of the envelope.

A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at 305 Chestnut Street at 9 a.m. May 21.
