City of Kalamazoo offering tours of Public Services Department

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Kalamazoo’s Public Services Department is opening up its doors this week to give a behind-the-scenes look at how the city’s infrastructure works.

The three open houses will follow a theme: “All Things Water,” “All Things Wastewater” and “All Things Public Works.”

All three open houses will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting Tuesday with the department’s facilities on Stockbridge Avenue. The tour will showcase the department’s heavy equipment and show the public “how water makes its way from deep underground to homes and businesses in the region.”

Tours of Kalamazoo’s wastewater treatment plant will be held on Wednesday.

On Thursday, tours return to 415 East Stockbridge Avenue to explain how the department handles everything from sidewalk maintenance and tree trimming to waste collection.

Guided tours for all three events will start every 30 minutes. Visitors will find signage and balloons at each location. Food and refreshments will be provided.
