On Monday, Mayor Melanie Hepperly proclaimed this week as Police Week and acknowledged Wednesday as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in the city.

This year is especially solemn as Fairway remembers Officer Oswald, who was tragically killed in the line of duty last August.

The proclamation read:

It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, buy protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression.

In honor of Officer Oswald, the city is encouraged to remember his courage, selflessness and dedication to protecting the community, as he embodied the ideals of sacrifice and service.

The Chief of Police at the Fairway Police Department said, “With every call answered, every danger faced, and every life protected, he displayed remarkable bravery and commitment. His loss is deeply felt, not just by his colleagues in uniform, but by an entire community grateful for his service.”

Although friends, family, colleagues and the City of Fairway continue to mourn his passing, the community is encouraged to celebrate his life and legacy and let his acts of service be a source of inspiration that encourages people to be kind and show compassion to all.
