City Council bill proposes to extend beach, pool access beyond summer in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A proposed City Council bill would make the beach and pool season longer in New York City.

The season would extend to the second Sunday in October and start on the second Saturday in May. It would provide an extra two months of pool and beach access with a lifeguard.

The season currently begins each year on Memorial Day weekend and ends the Sunday after Labor Day.

The Parks Department has already signaled that an extended season would be unlikely as it grapples with a lifeguard shortage, according to reporting from the New York Post.
