City breaks ground on Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion project

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction hosted the groundbreaking for Phase 1 of the Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion on Wednesday.

The expansion project will take around two years to complete and will cost about $80.5 million. $15 million will come from the city’s reserve fund while the rest will be paid for by low interest rate bonds.

The expansion project will revitalize critical infrastructure at the plant and expand the capacity from 12.5 million gallons of wastewater per day to 15 million gallons of wastewater per day. The capacity expansion will serve the needs of the community for the next 20 years based on projected population growth and development.
