Donald Trump says he’s giving President Obama an extra day to release his college and passport records because of Hurricane Sandy.
“Because of the hurricane, I am extending my 5 million dollar offer for President Obama’s favorite charity until 12PM on Thursday,” the New York real estate mogul and reality television star wrote on Twitter.
Last week, Trump offered $5 million in charitable donations if the president would release his college and passport records by Wednesday.
Obama has suggested that he’s not interested in taking Trump up on the offer, joking about the matter when asked.
Appearing on Jay Leno’s show after the announcement, Obama referenced Trump’s skepticism of his birth place and joked that Trump’s dislike for him “dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya.”
While many in the media mocked him for the gimmick, Trump told The Daily Caller last week that the reaction to his offer has been “amazingly positive.”
Trump said in that interview that he was optimistic that the president will follow through on his offer.
“I think there’s a chance,” he told TheDC. “A lot of people think he won’t because he’s got something to hide. I would love him to because I think if he did it, it would show everything is fine.”
On Tuesday, Trump also speculated that Hurricane Sandy was good for Obama.
“Hurricane is good luck for Obama again- he will buy the election by handing out billions of dollars,” Trump said on Twitter.
