Citigroup to add 175 jobs in Buffalo suburb

Citigroup adding 175 jobs in Buffalo, NY suburb; workers sought for operations, tech, finance

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) -- Citigroup Inc. has committed to adding 175 jobs at its site in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst.

Sen. Charles Schumer says Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat told him the bank's employment at the back-office center would grow to 1,475.

Headquartered in New York City, Citigroup in December announced plans to cut 11,000 jobs globally but it was unclear how New York operations would be affected.

The jobs being added in Amherst will be in the areas of operations and technology, finance and risk.

The announcement Thursday follows Yahoo's decision to build a second call center in Lockport, north of Buffalo, and hire 115 people.
