Saturday marked the 2nd meeting of the weekend between Tess Cites and Sarah Coon, at the NCAA Division I level. Both Horseheads’ Cites and Elmira’s Coon turned in memorable performances in their final meeting of the season. After Coon and the Cavaliers took Friday’s matchup 5-2, Cites powered the Wildcats to an early lead in Saturday’s rematch. The reigning Big East Player of the Year blasted a home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Cites’ 7th home run of the season kept the Wildcats in front until the 6th frame, when Jade Hylton notched a solo shot to tie. In the 8th inning, Coon added a 2 RBI-double to cap off the Cavaliers’ late 4-run burst to win.

On the day, Coon went (2-4) with 2 RBI for Virginia. Cites delivered 2 hits against Missouri in Villanova’s early game, before adding her solo home run in the nightcap.

Coon and Virginia will next begin a 3 game series with Notre Dame. The Cavilers start the series on Friday and will be in search of their 5th straight win. Cites will look to help the Wildcats right the ship with a Tuesday meeting against Pennsylvania. Villanova will look to snap a 3-game losing skid.
