On McCain's website, which details his funeral plans, his wife Cindy has requested that any flowers be sent to VA hospitals in honor of her late husband.

“If so inclined, flowers may be sent to your local VA Hospital,” reads the page.

“Sen. McCain’s family once again showed the sense of selfless service that has been their hallmark for over a century,” Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie said in a statement to People regarding the gesture. “He and his family are in the hearts and prayers of all of America’s warriors. He will be missed by all of those who have worn the uniform.”

Services in honor of McCain are planned throughout this week. Today, Joe Biden gave a moving eulogy during a religious memorial at North Phoenix Baptist Church, as did the Senator's daughter Bridget.

Tomorrow, the late Senator McCain will travel to Washington, D.C. where he will lie in state in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on Friday. Following a private ceremony at 11 a.m., members of the public will be able to pay their respects from 2 to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be a processional from the Capitol to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Again, the public is invited to line the route to honor the late Senator.

McCain will then make his way to Washington National Cathedral for a private memorial, which will be livestreamed. He will be buried at Annapolis.
