Cicadas begin emerging in parts of South Carolina

Cicadas have started to emerge in parts of South Carolina.

This month, trillions of red-eyed periodical cicadas are predicted to emerge from underground across the eastern part of the United States. The emerging broods are on 13 or 17 year cycles.

The noise of the male cicadas’ mating songs have resulted in noise complaints to police across the region.

TikTok user Sarah Weinberg took to social media to show the thousands of cicadas — living and dead — littering the outside of her home.
