Chuck Mills’ 2016 Predictions: The Overview

There has been a fair amount of hype surrounding Jay Cutler this offseason. Most of it revolves around the fact that Jay Cutler reduced the amount of interceptions he threw, going from a league-leading 18 interceptions to a more tolerable 11. What doesn’t get mentioned is that Cutler’s touchdown total went down from 28 to 21 and that the Bears’ had the 23rd ranked passing attack. And there’s plenty of questions surrounding the Bears receiving corps.

There’s Alshon Jeffery, who is a big weapon for Jay Cutler, but he missed seven games in 2015 and he has had some hamstring struggles already. There’s also the question of who is going to line up as the number two receiver. Kevin White is currently listed as the number two receiver on the Bears depth chart, but he missed the entire 2015 season and will be fairly raw. At tight end, the Bears have Zach Miller, a journeyman tight end that hasn’t done very much as he enters into his eighth season.

The Bears also have questions at running back after Matt Forte’s departure. Jeremy Langford spearheads a group of running backs that are all faced with the heavy tasks of replacing one of the most versatile and dynamic backs of the last ten years.

The Bears have a nice defensive line with Ego Ferguson, Eddie Goldman, and Akiem Hicks and they have an even better linebacker corps with Pernell McPhee, Danny Trevathan, Lamarr Houston, Jerrell Freeman, and rookie Leonard Floyd.

Prediction:

The Bears defense should finally get back to Bears standards, but the offense won’t be able to keep up. 7-9 with wins against the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Minnesota Vikings.
